New Orleans

New Orleans, the largest city in the state of Louisiana, is often referred to as America's "most unique" city. New Orleans is well known for its multicultural and multilingual heritage, cuisine, architecture, music, jazz history, and its annual celebrations and festivals, especially Mardi Gras and the Jazz Festival.

East Jefferson Parish

  • Metairie (pop. 146,000) is the largest community in Jefferson Parish. It is home to the region's largest shopping center and is known for many family-friendly Mardi Gras parades.
  • Kenner (pop. 70,000)  is home of the New Orleans airport and historic district located along the original main street of Old Kenner.

  • Mandeville (pop. 12,000) was named one of the "Relocate America" Top 100 Places to Live in 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2009.

  • Covington (pop. 8,000) historic downtown of streets and squares boasting restaurants, shops and art galleries. The downtown often is  host to several street festivities and fairs. One such event, the annual three-day Ozone Film Festival includes film screenings, workshops, lectures, live music and art exhibitions.
  • Abita Springs (pop. 2,000) once a Choctaw Indian village, is now recognized for its historic district with restaurants, beautiful gardens, art galleries, and country stores.
  • Madisonville (pop. 700) features outdoor dining along the Tchefuncte River and hosts the Wooden Boat Festival each fall. The Madisonville Lighthouse, built in 1838, is on the United States National Register of Historic Places.
